The most recent addition to the Alabama Heroes Welcome Licensure Boards page is a collaborative project - the Military Spouse License Portability Checklist. This checklist was developed by the Military Family and Spouse Liaisons of Alabama, Virginia, and Washington State. It is a handy guide for military spouses across the nation who are seeking to transfer professional licenses between states and to receive reimbursement for fees as applicable.
Significant challenges faced by service members and their families when moving with the military typically fall into one or more of these categories: housing, military spouse employment, K-12 education, and child care. The concept for the Alabama Heroes Welcome Initiative website originated with Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth's intent to improve the quality of life for military-connected families in and moving to Alabama across these topics and more.
The Lieutenant Governor’s initial focus was to reduce barriers to employment for military spouses after a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move to Alabama. He wanted to showcase military spouse licensure compacts and Alabama's own 2018 Military Family Jobs Opportunity Act. While that idea grew to include resources across many quality of life topics, these employment-related items are now featured on our Licensure Boards page. Additionally, we house the only one-stop location to find contact information for the State's 48 licensing boards.
We are excited to add the Military Spouse License Portability Checklist on our Licensure Boards page as a free tool for military spouses anywhere in the nation.
