The Alabama Military Stability Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the newly created website, the Heroes Welcome Initiative. This initiative leads the Nation by designing a first-of-its-kind experience that will bridge the gap between the Department of Defense, the State of Alabama, military installations throughout Alabama, and local defense communities. The Foundation is committed to providing your family, and other military families, with available information and resources to ensure that you are set up for success prior to your next PCS (Permanent Change of Station) to the state.
Frequent relocations, maintaining the household while the active-duty service member is supporting the military mission, providing strength to the family, entering or reentering the workforce, transferring licenses and credentials to a new home state, and supporting the community you live in, all create a unique lifestyle and require extreme sacrifices every day. Alabama is the proud home of several Defense Communities, and to more than 26,000 military members and their families. The Heroes Welcome Initiative website is a virtual “Welcome” that connects our military community with local and state-wide resources, easing the transition to their new home.
The idea for the site started with Lt. Gov. Ainsworth’s desire to ensure military spouses are familiar with the Military Family Jobs Opportunity Act of 2018, which provides licensure reciprocity across the majority of Alabama’s license granting boards. Unsatisfied with leaving it there, he cast a vision to further improve the overall transition process for military families. No other state provides this type of asset and we expect it will be held up as a national best practice.
“This will be a one-stop-shop for all of our military families moving into the state of Alabama. I want to thank everyone involved for making this effort a success, but most importantly, to all of our military and their families for their continued service,” Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, chair of the Alabama Military Stability Commission, said.
At the direction of the lieutenant governor, the Alabama Military Stability Foundation sought out experts in the field of military quality of life. The foundation selected subject matter experts and military spouses, C.C. Gallagher, CEO of Military Quality of Life Consulting, LLC and Jen Holliday, Owner of Holliday Design Studio. The site was produced in collaboration with our defense communities throughout the state.
On the website, you will find:
- Quality-of-life resources and information applicable to your specific defense community.
- Resources that are applicable to the National Guard or Reserve Component.
- Popular state, federal, and national resources.
- Actionable steps and contact information for licensure and/or credentialing agencies to help you identify rapid pathways into the workforce in Alabama.
- Top attractions to explore and other notable sites that Alabama has to offer.
Make yourself at home in ‘Sweet Home’ Alabama. To obtain more information, please explore the website.
